Each year, the North Sea Jazz festival holds a design competition at the Willem de Kooning Academy for their art poster. 15 designs would be showcased at the iconic jazz cafe Dizzy in Rotterdam and on the festival itself.
I took this competition as a challenge to create a design using a combination of 3D rendering and graphic design as this opens up new possibilities of visualizing. For me, the festival stands for music, energy, vibrance, rhythm and a complete memorable experience.
The poster should give you the sensation that the design itself is performing. Showcasing the balance of skilled musicians performing together, with the chaotic freedom of jazz improv. Wrapped in a vibrant two colour screenprint.
